More blood... Dark Wolverine #2 Variant cover
Colors by Sonia Oblahdeeoblahdahback Did this cover before the X-Force 17 cover, so really had a chance to experiment and play with the blood splatters on this one. This is supposed to be Wolverine's son Daken, whom I was completely unfamiliar with and actually contacted Daniel Way and Marjorie Liu (the writers of Dark Wolverine) to get a better grasp of the character. Basically this is a guy who kills indiscriminantly because gets pleasure out of murder itself. He is also handsome, pretty, tall, elegant... basically the opposite of Logan. A lot of editorial didn't like this image at first. Some editors didn't know what was going on, or thought extra clarification was needed through the presence of dead bodies whereas others thought it was pretty self-explanatory (which is necessary even in single-image storytelling.) Eventually the image went through as is. I think this image is very hit-or-miss with people, even if/when they get over the character himself. However, I choose to like this image, especially when Emily said, before the blood was added, that it looked like he "was getting his dick sucked." That was pretty much what I was going for. The bliss from the violence. |
